We understand saying goodbye to a beloved pet can be a difficult and emotional time. That’s why we strive to provide an empathetic and respectful environment for you and your pet during this process. We’re dedicated to ensuring a peaceful and pain-free transition for your furry friend.
In addition to traditional domestic pets like dogs and cats, Dr. Dunbar has a wide scope of experience and understands that some animals, including livestock, are pets to many. These services include, but are not limited to, goats, sheep, chickens, exotic birds, pigs, and cows. In certain instances, such as livestock, handling your pet afterward will require coordination with a hauling service that we can organize at the owner’s request.
The home visit includes a Quality of Life discussion and consultation, as well as a euthanasia discussion with any questions answered about the process and handling of your pet afterward.
This is to provide your pet with a comfortable and relaxed transition. The sedation will make your pet sleepy, relaxed, and takes less than 10 minutes. When the sedation is in full effect, your pet will be completely under anesthesia and unaware of anything after that.
After the anesthesia, I use state-of-the-art medication that is painless and gentle when you and your pet are ready.
I can assist with the cremation of smaller pets. For larger pets, please contact Heaven’s Gate Pet Memorial Center at (530) 377-9709. They are a local, family business in Wheatland, CA. I have partnered with this local crematorium to provide professional services for you and your pet. There are different options, including private cremation, where ashes are returned to you, or group cremation, with the spreading of ashes on a horse ranch in Lincoln, CA. Ashes can be picked up from the office. They will also pick up your beloved pet after our appointment if requested.
I have an extensive background with horses, big and small. The fee includes the ranch call, sedation, and euthanasia. These euthanasias can take more planning when it comes to handling your horse afterward. I understand that emergencies do happen and will do my best to coordinate the care of your horse after the transition. I can organize the transport of your horse after the transition if requested. The hauling service and remains service have additional, independent fees.
