The Equine Euthanasia Process

Thorough Consultation and Assessment

  1. Before the euthanasia procedure, Dr. Dunbar conducts a comprehensive consultation with the horse owner. This discussion encompasses various aspects, including the horse’s quality of life, medical history, and current condition. By fostering open communication, Dr. Dunbar ensures owners feel heard and supported in their decision-making process.
  2. During the euthanasia procedure, Dr. Dunbar prioritizes the horse’s comfort and tranquility. Administering gentle sedation, she ensures that the horse enters a state of peaceful relaxation, free from distress or discomfort. This step minimizes potential pain and allows the horse to transition with dignity and grace.
  3. Once the horse is deeply sedated, Dr. Dunbar administers state-of-the-art medication to facilitate a painless and gentle passing. With compassion and respect, she ensures that the horse’s final moments are characterized by peace and serenity. Throughout the process, Dr. Dunbar remains by the owner’s side, offering support and solace during this difficult time.

Aftercare Options and Support

Equine euthanasia can take additional planning when it comes to handling your horse afterward. We understand that emergencies happen and we’ll do our best to coordinate the care of your horse after the transition. Likewise, we can organize the transport of your horse after the transition if requested. The hauling service and remains service have additional, independent fees.
